A new long-term programme aimed at reshaping how health and social care services are delivered in Renfrewshire has been approved by board members.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Integration Joint Board on Friday, 30th January 2026, held in the Council Chambers.

Board members agreed to progress a “Foundations of Transformation” programme, which will underpin the partnership’s next strategic plan and guide how services develop over the coming years.

Officials told the meeting the programme is designed to respond to rising demand, financial pressure and workforce challenges by shifting focus away from crisis intervention and towards prevention, community-based care and early support.

It was acknowledged that delivery of prevention activity will be challenging given the ongoing financial climate. But Officers will prioritise those savings that move us closer to those future models of care, and aim to avoid or delay those savings that would make it difficult to deliver those longer term ambitions.

The approach will also look at how services can better work together across health, social care and the third sector, while making greater use of digital solutions and redesigning services around people rather than organisations.

Board members acknowledged the scale of the challenge facing health and social care locally, but agreed that long-term transformation is necessary to maintain safe and sustainable services for Renfrewshire’s growing and ageing population.

Officers confirmed further detailed proposals will be brought back to the board as the transformation work develops.
