A 40-year-old man has been jailed for 20 months after attacking a woman on a bus in Glasgow and attempting to rob a driver.
Jamie Michie, formerly of Paisley, Renfrewshire, carried out the assaults on Eglington Street on 26th November 2025.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Michie, who was bleeding, boarded the bus while intoxicated and staggering. His behaviour delayed the bus from moving off.
Passenger Sharon Clark told him: “Hurry up, we are leaving.”
Prosecutor Victoria Keel said: “Michie repeatedly punched her to the head causing her nose to bleed and a lump to her head.”
Michie then staggered off the bus and went to another bus stop.
Bus driver Abdulslam Esa was waiting to start his shift when Michie approached him.
Miss Keel said: “Michie grabbed Mr Esa’s backpack and attempted to pull it over his head.
“He attempted to take the bag but the driver was able to hold on and pulled Michie to stop him taking it.”
Michie then told a member of the public that he had been hit. The man replied: “You just attacked him.”
Mr Esa restrained Michie until police officers arrived.
Michie was placed in a police van where he spat at officer Sara Baird. The spit contained blood from his wound.
He was later taken to hospital where he received three stitches to treat his injury.
Michie pleaded guilty to assault to injury, assault to injury and attempted robbery, as well as assaulting the police officer.
His lawyer told the court that Michie apologised to his victims.
Sheriff Andrew McIntyre described the behaviour as “shocking” as he jailed Michie for 20 months.
The sheriff said: “It is quite awful that people going about their business in Glasgow have been subjected to this behaviour as well as a man going to his work.
“This type of behaviour makes people think they cannot go about the city freely. This has to be marked by the court.”
