A Glasgow private hire driver charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Johnstone has had his licensing hearing continued.

Sobhan Ahmadi, who is currently suspended from working as a driver, has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on 5th January 2026 in Johnstone.

Ahmadi’s private hire car driver’s licence was suspended on 15th January 2026 by Glasgow City Council’s licensing section for six weeks following a complaint from Police Scotland.

The matter was considered by the council’s Licensing and Regulatory Committee on Wednesday.

Appearing before the committee, Ahmadi said his lawyer was not present and that his English “is not good”.

Committee chair Councillor Sean Ferguson said the hearing should be continued to a later date to allow Ahmadi to “get representation” and a potential translator due to his “lack of English”.

The committee agreed to continue the hearing and Ahmadi is due to appear before the licensing committee again later this month.
