Rail passengers in Renfrewshire are being advised to check their journeys in advance next month, as engineering works across Scotland’s railway network could affect services beyond the local area.
Network Rail is carrying out £7.2 million of upgrades throughout April, including improvements to track, signalling, overhead lines and drainage systems.
While no lines within Renfrewshire are set to be directly affected, passengers travelling from stations such as Paisley Gilmour Street into Glasgow and onwards may see changes to their journeys.
Between Friday 4th April and Sunday 6th April, services between Glasgow Central and destinations including Motherwell, Lanark and Edinburgh will be disrupted due to work in the Glasgow area and the installation of a new bridge at Carstairs.
Further disruption is expected between Thursday 3rd April and Tuesday 8th April, and again from Friday 11th April to Sunday 20th April, as reliability improvements are carried out on the West Coast Main Line. This is likely to impact longer-distance services between Glasgow and London.
Network Rail said the vast majority of the network will remain open, but some routes will see temporary changes, including revised timetables and rail replacement services.
Passengers travelling over the Easter period and throughout April are being urged to plan ahead and check for any updates before setting off.
Gerry McQuade, capital delivery director at Network Rail Scotland, said: “We know any changes to normal services can be inconvenient. We aim to keep disruption to a minimum where possible and appreciate people’s patience as we deliver these improvements for Scotland’s Railway.”
Passengers can check the latest travel information with their train operator or via the National Rail website.
