Residents in Erskine are set to benefit from faster and more reliable mobile coverage after EE expanded its next-generation 5G+ network to the area.
The upgrade is now live across the town and is expected to improve performance in busy locations such as transport hubs and shopping areas as the spring and summer months bring more people outdoors.
EE says its 5G+ network is designed to deliver quicker download and upload speeds, along with a more stable connection during peak times when demand is highest.
The rollout forms part of a wider UK expansion which has seen 5G+ extended to more than 50 million people across over 600 towns and cities – including Erskine.
According to the company, usage of its 5G+ network has risen by 54% in the past six months, reflecting growing demand for mobile data as more people rely on their phones for streaming, calls and everyday connectivity.
The network upgrade is part of a wider long-term investment by EE and parent company BT Group, which plans to deliver 5G+ coverage to the vast majority of the UK population by 2030.
Greg McCall, Chief Security and Networks Officer at BT Group, said the expansion shows the pace of development across the UK’s mobile infrastructure.
He added that the aim is to provide more reliable and resilient connectivity “in the places where it matters most”.
EE has also introduced new technology to support the rollout, including upgrades to thousands of mobile sites to improve indoor coverage and network capacity.
Further enhancements, such as technology allowing nearby masts to share capacity in real time, are also being rolled out in major cities to boost performance in crowded areas.
Erskine is among a number of smaller towns included in the latest phase of the expansion, as EE continues its push to bring faster mobile connectivity beyond major urban centres.
