A teenager who stabbed a man to death outside his home in Paisley has been jailed today.
Jaxon Millar, then 19, struck Robert McNally, 21, in Paisley on 18th January 2025.
The High Court in Glasgow heard the two men knew each other but were not friends.
The court was told the background to the incident was that Mr McNally and his friends were angry a woman known to Millar had given a police statement regarding domestic abuse allegations.
This led to someone being held in custody and the group wanted to speak to Millar, now aged 20, about it.
Mr McNally’s friends attended Millar’s home that day and argued with him.
Mr McNally was later told what had happened and became angry.
The court heard three masked men then drove to Millar’s home. Mr McNally was armed with a machete while another man carried a hatchet.
Mr McNally repeatedly banged on the door with the machete before Millar threw fireworks at the group from an upstairs window.
Mr McNally and two others then entered Millar’s flat for up to a minute before leaving.
One of the men began smashing Millar’s car and was joined by Mr McNally.
Millar ran from the house and chased after Mr McNally.
Prosecutor Greg Farrell said: “Millar caught up with him and stabbed him once on the back. Mr McNally fell to the ground.
“The other man, who was armed, ran back and a brief altercation took place amongst the three men.
“Mr McNally had got back to his feet.
“During the altercation, Millar was struck on the side of the face with a hatchet.”
Millar then ran back into his home while Mr McNally and the other man walked away.
Mr McNally later collapsed as the other man attempted first aid and shouted for help.
Emergency services attended but Mr McNally died at the scene.
The cause of death was given as a stab wound to the chest.
The court heard the blade entered Mr McNally’s left lung, causing it to collapse, and the injury was “sufficient enough to account for death”.
The knife and hatchet were later recovered.
Millar, of Lochwinnoch, pleaded guilty to culpable homicide after originally being charged with murder.
Defence lawyer John Scullion KC told the court: “The situation was Mr Millar was in his own home minding his own business.
“Those who attended were there to intimidate and assault him.
“These were people who were known for significant acts of violence and were there to inflict acts of violence on him.
“These are the circumstances to which he reacted and he immediately tried to deter them with fireworks.”
Judge Lord Mulholland told Millar: “This tit-for-tat violence only ends up in tragedy and where you are today.
“It is inevitable that you will be sentenced to imprisonment.
“You took the life of another person and it is a very serious matter.”
Following Mr McNally’s death, tributes were paid to the 21-year-old.
His girlfriend Angel White said: “Robert darling. Our relationship wasn’t perfect, you were the most hot headed, craziest boy I have ever met.
“But there wasn’t anything you wouldn’t do for the people you cared about and that’s what I loved about you.
“You have been taken away from us all so sudden and far too early but I feel lucky to say I got to spend the last few months of your life by your side and I’m really going to miss you.
“I’ll always hold a place for you in my heart Robert, forever.”
His cousin Nicole Adam said: “My heart is broken into a million pieces, I haven’t just lost my little cousin but a little brother.”
