A 16-year-old has been charged after police spotted an electric dirt bike being ridden on Causeyside Street in Paisley.
Officers from Paisley Police Office saw the teenager riding the bike on Wednesday 27th May.
The rider was later traced and charged with driving offences, including having no insurance, no licence and driving an unregistered vehicle.
The bike was also seized by police.
Police have now appealed to parents and carers following a number of recent incidents involving young people riding electric dirt bikes.
Officers said the bikes can be legally bought in Scotland, but they are illegal to ride on public roads, pavements and other public places.
They can only be used lawfully on private land with the landowner’s permission.
Police said parents and carers should consider the dangers of the bikes and remember that anyone buying one has a responsibility to understand the law.
Enforcement action can be taken against riders and those who purchase the bikes. Police can seize e-bikes and dirt bikes when they are used illegally, while parents can also be held responsible, which could lead to fines and points on their own licence.
