More than 2,000 income advice cases involving Renfrewshire Council tenants have been recorded in the first four months of this financial year.

Information from advice interviews up to the end of July 2026 shows 2,005 cases involved households in council tenancies.

Staff assess whether tenants are entitled to financial help and support them to access benefits they are eligible for. They also provide advice on money matters and budgeting.

Support can include Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Attendance Allowance, disability payments and food vouchers.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren welcomed the work of the income advice team.

He said: “This report highlights the excellent work of the income advice team supporting council tenants and ensuring that they get any benefits to which they are entitled.”

Councillor MacLaren said the financial support secured for tenants totalled £1,129,274.96 between 1st April and 31st July 2026.

He added: “In monetary terms this support equates to £1,129,274.96 between 1st April 2026 and 31st July 2026.

“Between 1st April 2026 and 31st July 2026 149 tenants were referred for Tenant Support Fund assessment, which have the added value of full income assessment and advice provision. Of the referrals 135 have engaged with Specialist Income Advisors and 93 have qualified for assistance from the fund.

“I would encourage any council tenant facing financial problems to contact this team to see what help they can provide.”
