Renfrewshire Council is considering moving its CCTV control centre from the former court building on Mill Street in Paisley.
The council is preparing a business case examining other locations and options for the service.
The proposal was discussed at the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 26th August.
The council invested in the former court building in 2015 to create the existing CCTV control centre.
That agreement has ended and Police Scotland’s estates team has been discussing a new commercial rent with the council.
Gordon McNeil, Director of Environment, Housing and Infrastructure, said: “That position has allowed the council to take a step back and look at the options of where CCTV provision will be for the future. That work is on-going, but we believe that other locations and options are worth considering.”
A short-term lease has been negotiated while the business case is prepared.
Councillor Chris Gilmour raised concerns about what would happen if Police Scotland used a break clause and the council had not secured another location.
The board was told this would be considered as part of the risks in the business case.
Councillor Iain Nicolson criticised the decision to charge a full commercial rent and questioned whether Police Scotland paid commercial rates for any council properties it used.
Officers hope to return to the board with further information within the next two meeting cycles.
