As major donors to the Erskine Glasgow Home Recreation Project, representatives from the ScottishPower Foundation enjoyed a visit to the care home’s new recreation area last week, to witness it being used by enthusiastic residents.
Staff and veterans at Erskine Glasgow are thrilled the area is now in use for the purpose of hosting events and social activities for residents, their relatives and friends.
The extension to the care home was completed this month with a total of £420,000 being raised through charitable donations.
Last Wednesday, the new facility, named ‘The Bridge’ by residents, hosted a seated exercise class which is a firm favourite with residents.
The bright, spacious recreation area provides a perfect venue for the exercise class, which is run weekly by Erskine’s physiotherapy staff.
Before the new recreation area was constructed, the class was held in a TV lounge in the home which was far from ideal, disturbing other residents and staff as they went about their daily tasks.

Erskine Glasgow residents are also delighted with another very welcome new addition to the home as part of the project, that of an exercise bike which will be kept in ‘The Bridge’. Residents have so enjoyed using the bike they have been forming an orderly queue!
Gordon Johnston, Manager of Erskine Glasgow said: “We were keen to invite the ScottishPower Foundation along to the home to see ‘The Bridge’ in use as they generously donated £23,000 towards the recreation project.
The new facility has greatly enhanced the recreation service we can provide to veterans living in the home and it will undoubtedly improve their quality of daily life.
We look forward to many years of fun and laughter to come in the new recreation area, thanks to all of the generous donors who supported the project including our friends at the ScottishPower Foundation – their support is greatly appreciated.”
Heather McDonald, Group Sponsorship Manager at ScottishPower added: “We’re delighted to be here to watch the recreation area in action; it’s clear to see how much the space will have a positive impact on those living at Erskine. The ScottishPower Foundation is committed to improving the lives of those most in need so it is a fantastic project to be involved with.”
