A councillor has claimed Renfrewshire Council is not doing enough to tackle dog fouling in our communities with only three fines handed out.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren, the leader of the SNP in Renfrewshire, said that litter dropping fines were also low with only 2 fines issued across the whole of Renfrewshire.
The information was published in Renfrewshire Council’s Information Bulletin report issued in February.
It shows that one fine for dog fouling was handed out in Renfrew & Gallowhill and two in the Paisley North areas.
MacLaren, who is the Councillor for Paisley North West said: “It’s clear that this Labour administration is not concerned with the issue of litter and dog fouling in our communities”
“Dog fouling is one of the most common complaints I receive as a councillor, and one of the most common complaints received at the council’s customer contact centre.
“There needs to be more enforcement of the legislation on this issue. The SNP Scottish Government is doing its bit by doubling the level of fines to £80 but under Labour there is a real lack of action within Renfrewshire.
“It’s clear with the extremely low level of fines issued for litter and dog fouling that looking after our environment isn’t a priority for Labour.”
The Scottish Government increased fines for dog fouling from £40 to £80 on 1st April 2016, with same fine for littering.
