Councillors Jim Paterson and Cathy McEwan, SNP Candidates for Renfrew South and Gallowhill, have called on Renfrewshire Council to clean up its act and improve the state of our streets.

The SNP have submitted a full motion to the Council highlighting the recent report showing that Labour has led Renfrewshire to 30 out of 32 in street cleanliness throughout Scotland and have published their manifesto to place a strong emphasis on street cleaning.

Councillor Jim Paterson, SNP Candidate for Renfrew South and Gallowhill, said: “Renfrewshire Labour need to clean up their mess and improve the state of our streets and communities.

“Their cuts to environmental services have pushed Renfrewshire to the bottom of the table of street cleanliness across Scotland. However, that’s no surprise as I have received numerous complaints from local constituents about the state of their local communities with bins not being collected and litter not being picked up.

“An SNP controlled Renfrewshire Council will reverse this decline and start to clean up the mess that Labour has made to our streets. We will adopt sustainable policies that will once again prioritise our street cleaning, including graffiti, waste and vandalism that bring down our towns and villages.”

Councillor Cathy McEwan, SNP Candidate for Renfrew South and Gallowhill, said: “Labour have neglected every part of Renfrewshire and the state of our communities have suffered from it.

“The SNP have continually called on Labour-controlled Renfrewshire Council to invest in environmental services and to keep our streets and communities. However, Renfrewshire Labour has chosen to invest in vanity projects at the expense of delivering vital local services.

“The SNP has an ambitious and positive vision for our communities. We know how important street cleanliness is to local people and we will work hard to deliver the services that are vital to local communities. In order for local people to have pride in their local areas once again, an SNP Administration will drive forward a programme to reverse this decline in Renfrewshire.
