Organisers of this year’s Great Scottish Run are calling on people in Renfrewshire to apply for a special VIP event-day package and join thousands of others taking part in the 10k event.
Bank of Scotland, partner of the Great Scottish Run for ten years, is looking to build on the success of the Community Challenge at the run in Glasgow on Sunday 30th September 2018.
The aim of the Bank of Scotland Community Challenge is to recruit one runner from each of Scotland’s 32 local authorities to embark on their own personal journey by taking on a ‘10 week to 10k’ running challenge.
The Community Challenge is open to new and existing runners across Scotland who, if selected, will receive complimentary entry for the 10k, a personalised training programme by a Great Run expert coach, a personalised running top and access to the VIP area at the finish line.
Primary school teacher Skye Sarah has already signed up and is calling on people in Renfrewshire to get involved.
The 23-year-old said: “By completing the Great Scottish Run, I want to prove that limitations only exist in the mind. I hope to inspire others to push their limits by following my running journey. I’m also using the event to encourage the children at the school I work in to join me in hitting the miles in the weeks before the run, through our school daily mile initiative.”

I’m really looking forward to following our new recruits and learning more about their stories and journeys on the lead up to event day.
“This challenge has proven to be a fantastic addition to the event and adds to our aim to help Scotland prosper and make a difference in our local communities.”
To apply to be part of the Community Challenge, prospective applicants are required to contact communitychallenge@greatscottishrun.com and explain in up to 100 words about themselves, what has inspired them to take up the challenge and start running, and which local authority they would be representing.
The closing date for applications is midnight on 11th June. The Community Challenge selection panel will then make its decision, with successful participants being informed on or before 18th June.
Starting at George Square in the heart of Glasgow, the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run will see runners follow the 10k and half marathon routes through the city before entering Glasgow Green and reaching the tree-lined finish straight in the shadow of Nelson’s Monument, with the half marathon action captured live on BBC Scotland.
Scotland’s biggest weekend of running takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September and is set to feature more than 30,000 runners of all abilities, with the event including a 10k, half marathon and family events.
