A customer who registered for a new Renfrewshire Council ‘My Account’ service has won a Samsung tablet.

Daniel Birrell, 55 from Bridge of Weir won the competition after registering for Renfrewshire Council’s new online digital service for customers.

As part of Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021, Renfrewshire Council ran a prize draw for customers registering to use MyAccount and Daniel was chosen as one of the first 2,021 to sign-up.

There will be further prize draws in the coming months as more and more residents sign up to the new digital service.

Mr Birrell said “I do most things online now, so when I saw that the Council was introducing this new MyAccount, I thought I’d sign up and see what its like. I don’t need to use a lot of council services but I’ve linked my council tax account and it’s great. I’m just waiting to see what’s coming next!”

MyAccount makes it easier for residents to view and manage the council services they want to use online, rather than making a telephone call or a trip into the local office.

“It’s all about convenience,’ said Provost Anne Hall, ‘the more services we can offer online means people can see their account information, tell us about important changes, or apply for discounts and benefits at a time that suits them, and while they are on the go.

“It also frees up more time for our staff to concentrate on complex queries and support our more vulnerable residents.”

“When we saw the MyAccount figures rising towards 2,021 new customers, we knew we wanted to celebrate the successful uptake with a nod to Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture,” said Jean Cameron, Bid Director, Paisley for UK City of Culture 2021. “In our digital age, culture is a great way of opening up channels to accelerate connectivity and empower our communities.”

Available on a smartphone, tablet or computer, MyAccount is quick and simple to access. Customers can set up their direct debit for council tax, tell the council about a change of address or apply for council tax discount or exemption, all at the touch of a button.
