Pills with an estimated street value of over two million pounds have been recovered by police in Paisley.
Around 3.25pm on Wednesday 1st March 2017, officers from Paisley CID searched an industrial building with a warrant in Back Sneddon Street, Paisley.
During the search, officers recovered over 2 million pills, believed to be Etizolam and manufacturing equipment.
It’s thought that the pills may be sold as Valium on the street where the pills have been estimated by the Police of having a street value of £2,089,000.
Houses were also searched, simultaneously, in Osprey Crescent in Paisley and Blackwood Terrace in Johnstone, as part of the operation.
Three men, aged 43, 42 and 38 have been arrested in connection with alleged offences contrary to the New Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
Detective Inspector Suzanne Chow, said today: “Psychoactive substances can be as harmful as controlled drugs. In all cases, users just do not know what they are taking or what the effects could be. Psychoactive substances cause significant harm in communities and we will always take action against those who are alleged to be involved in the manufacturing or supply of any controlled drug or substance.

What is Etilolam?
Etizolam is used as medicine in Japan and India, to treat anxiety, insomnia and panic attacks, but it not licensed as a medicine in the UK. It can:
- Slow the brain and body down and can cause sedation/sleepiness, relaxation and a feeling of calm.
- It can help stop fits.
- Similar drugs have been shown to cause short-term memory loss.
- They can be highly addictive.
The side effects of etizolam are sleepiness/drowsiness, decrease/shallow breathing, loss of coordination, which could become fatal, especially if you mix it with other drugs that slow down the nervous system, such as alcohol.
