A man has been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after someone deliberately set fire to his front door last night.

The incident at the flat of the 40-year-old man, at Tannahill Road, Ferguslie Park in Paisley took place at around 11.10pm (on 26/06/16).

The man was wakened up after his fire alarm was set off. He then noticed that smoke was coming from his stairway and into his hall and he contacted emergency services.

The fire service extinguished the fire and the man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

Following an investigation by Police and Fire Service it was established that the front door of the flat had been set  alight on purpose and the fire is now being treated as willful fire-raising.

Detective Sergeant Ian Ross at Paisley CID said: “This was a deliberate, dangerous act which could have resulted in far more serious consequences not only for the householder but also for the other tenants who lived in the flats.

“Enquiries are continuing to trace who is responsible and officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information.

“At this time I would urge anyone with information that may assist this police investigation to contact Paisley CID via telephone number 101. Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
