Police detectives are hunting whoever was behind an attack that left a vulnerable Paisley man with slash marks on his face.

A 34-year-old man was discovered in Saucelhill Park around 6am with a fractured eye socket and slash wounds on his face.

Police believe that he was attacked between 2am and 5am on Friday (19/08/16) morning.

The victim walked by the Shell Garage at Lonend covered in blood. This was reported to the Police and a search begun to find him.

Police dogs were used and eventually led Police to where the victim was. Nearby a smashed glass bottle was also found, though to have been a weapon.

It’s thought that the victim, who has been reported missing had been sleeping rough.

Police carried out a full  forensic examination at the scene, as well as door to door enquries and spoke to the victim, who is unable to recollect what happened to him.

The victim was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment to a fracture to his eye socket, and lacerations to his nose, his temple and his head.

Paisley CID are appealing for help in tracing his attacker and they would like to hear from witnesses to a disturbance which took place in the Patrick Street area – adjacent to the park – in the early hours of Friday morning.

If anyone knows anything that can help Police catch the attacker contact Paisley CID on the non-emergency phone number 101, or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
