Alzheimer Scotland have launched a campaign asking local council candidates to support their 6-point pledge ensuring that people with dementia have the same human rights as every other person.
These include the right to be fully included in their community and, when needed, to timely, skilled and well-co-ordinated, care, support and treatment, at home, in hospital or any other setting.
Councillor Cathy McEwan, the Secretary of the SNP Council Group and candidate for Renfrew South and Gallowhill said: “I am happy to support the campaign by Alzheimer Scotland to improve the support to those affected by dementia and to help support their families.
“Alzheimer Scotland carry out tremendous working supporting people with dementia and I am more than happy to support their campaign.
“Dementia is a cruel disease that impacts on too many families in our society and it is reassuring that organisations such as Alzheimer Scotland are available to offer support not only to those with dementia but crucially to their family as well.
“If elected I would want to work more closely with the local Alzheimer Scotland branch in Renfrewshire to ensure any of my constituents with dementia receive the best support they can.”
