Labour in Renfrewshire have unveiled their manifesto ahead of the Elections on Thursday.
The manifesto focuses on education, housing, where they’re pledged building 5,000 new homes, protecting public services and jobs, including guaranteeing a job or training place for every 18-24 year-old.
New Schools have been promised including rebuilding Johnstone High School, Paisley Grammar, Castlehead High, Renfrew High and Trinity High, also in Renfrew.
Here are some of the party’s main pledges:
- Fight against SNP Government cuts to Renfrewshire’s budget
- Every young person has the best start in life by guaranteeing a job or training place for every 18-24 year old in Renfrewshire
- Grow the economy by investing £½ Billion in Renfrewshire through the City Deal and investments in our town centres creating 10,000 new jobs and supporting Renfrewshire’s businesses
- Build 5000 new homes and protect the green belt across Renfrewshire
- Continue their record investment in roads and parks
- Invest in our children’s futures by building new primary and secondary schools across Renfrewshire and employing more teachers and classroom assistants
- Defending the NHS and social care services against SNP cuts including fighting to save the Children’s Ward at the RAH
- Tackling the digital divide by providing super-fast Broadband across Renfrewshire and free public access Wi-Fi in our town centres
- Protect and improve bus services by campaigning for public ownership
- Through Paisley’s Bid to be UK City of Culture in 2021 we will transform Paisley and Renfrewshire into a community with a vibrant cultural and creative economy
Labour say they will radically change the decision making structure of the council to give people a real say in how services are delivered in the local area. More support will be put in place for young carers, support for Renfrewshire foodbanks with in-kind and financial support and an increase in funding to Renfrewshire’s five Local Area Committees by £100,000 to ensure more community groups and activities can receive funding and support.
They will introduce support for community groups to grow and develop through a new asset transfer scheme, allowing groups to own land or buildings for the first time and freeze all non-assessed social care charges, rent of community halls and activities with Renfrewshire Leisure.
