Mhairi Black was heckled by protesters who were campaigning against the closure of Paisley’s sick kids ward.
Health Minister Shona Robison arrived in Paisley to speak to families and campaigners about the plans to close the main services of the Children’s Ward 15 in the town’s Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Black, SNP candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, initially blocked campaigner Karen Kennedy and Labour Councillor for Paisley North West from entering a meeting room with the Minister claiming there was not enough room.
Black later allowed her to enter the meeting.
Speaking on Facebook, a spokesperson from ‘Kids Need Our Ward’ campaign said: “Interesting meeting today with Shona Robison.
“Very heated beforehand as Mhari Black tried to stop Kids Need Our Ward (KNOW) parents getting access unless she had personally invited them. She insisted the room wasn’t big enough but could have hosted 30 rather than 10 easily.
“We had to fight to allow Karen Kennedy access, and she is a very active KNOW Campaigner.
“However, when we got in eventually, two SNP councillors, who have constantly refused to back us, were sitting at the table. Considering that Mhari Black said she was inviting ‘the people most affected by the changes’, [we have] no idea how their presence was justified.
“They had nothing useful to contribute to the discussion. Let’s hope that the future meetings promised will take place, as only a tiny fraction of parents were allowed to be there today.”
