Radio presenter and producer George Bowie has released a new charity version of The Power of Love, recorded with Glasgow singer Connor McGlave, to raise money for Cash for Kids this Christmas.

The pair first collaborated earlier this year when Bowie remixed McGlave’s single Flowers. After performing together at club and festival shows over the summer, a suggestion from a friend led to Bowie revisiting the classic 1984 Frankie Goes to Hollywood hit and asking McGlave to record a new vocal for it.

Bowie said the annual Cash for Kids appeal remains close to his heart, and he hopes the track will help raise vital funds for families across Scotland during the festive period. He said : “The most important thing is that it’s all for Cash for Kids. Every year we try to do something to support the appeal, because a lot of children in Scotland won’t normally have a Christmas. If this encourages even a bit of fundraising, it’s worth it.”

McGlave said he was proud to be involved. He said: “With it being for Cash for Kids, it makes it all the more special. This time of year can be tough for a lot of families, and anything you can do — big or small — helps. I’m glad we can play a part in that.”

Bowie said McGlave’s vocal suited the track from the outset and he is pleased with how the song has turned out. Bowie added: “Connor’s voice is perfect for it. I’m really proud of the final version. It’s one of those songs that always feels right at this time of year, and we’re looking forward to performing it live at some of the big gigs.”

McGlave, who grew up hearing Bowie’s GBX show, said hearing his own voice on the finished mix was “surreal” and thanked Bowie and his production partner (and wife) Ellene for continuing to support emerging Scottish artists. McGlave added: “Working with George has opened my eyes to bigger crowds and new opportunities. I can’t thank George and Ellene enough for backing me.”

GBX ft Connor McGlave – The Power of Love (Radio Edit) is out now on all major streaming platforms, with all proceeds going to Cash for Kids.
