Johnstone Burgh and Renfrew have both been formally approved as member clubs of the Scottish FA.
The decision was confirmed following a meeting of the Scottish FA Board on Wednesday 23rd April 2026, where both clubs’ applications for membership were accepted.
In an email sent to the clubs, the Scottish FA confirmed that the Licensing Committee had verified that both had met the required criteria under the Club Licensing Procedures, as well as wider membership requirements.
The email states: “I am therefore pleased to confirm that your club’s application for membership was approved by the Board.”
Membership will become effective following the Scottish FA Annual General Meeting, which will take place on Thursday 28th May 2026 at Hampden Park, where club representatives will be invited to receive their certificates.
The approval means both Johnstone Burgh and Renfrew will hold SFA Entry Level licences, making them eligible to compete in the Scottish Cup.
The developments come ahead of a major restructure of the Scottish football pyramid at tier five.
From the 2026/27 season, the current Lowland League will be replaced by a Lowland League East and a Lowland League West, both operating alongside the Highland League.
Only clubs playing in the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division — tier 6 of Scottish football — can be promoted to the new Lowland League West, and only if they finish in the top nine and hold the required licence.
That means Johnstone Burgh and Renfrew are now both eligible for promotion, provided they finish inside the top nine this season.
Up to nine clubs can move into the new Lowland League West, based on final league positions and which teams meet the SFA Club Licensing criteria.
If fewer than nine clubs meet both the league position and licensing requirements, the new league would start with fewer teams.
There will be no relegation across the WoSFL this season.
