Children were left upset after part of a woodland play area they had spent weeks creating was damaged near the Westway building in Renfrew.

The space had been built by youngsters from Safe Hands Childcare on Albert Road over the past month.

Staff said the children created a tyre zone, teepee, tyre swing and decorations using their own artwork.

However, when they returned, they found parts of the area destroyed, with ribbons and artwork ripped down and thrown into puddles.

The teepee had also been pulled into the water.

Staff shared photographs showing the damage and the clean-up effort afterwards.

A post shared online said: “The children were understandably upset. They couldn’t understand why someone would want to ruin something that brought them so much joy.

“They carefully collected everything and worked together to tidy the mess, starting to rebuild their special place as best they could.”

The woodland area had included a sign explaining it was being used by young children as part of outdoor learning activities.

Safe Hands Childcare describes itself as a curiosity approach private day nursery for children aged 0 to 5, with before and after school care and holiday clubs for primary school children in Renfrew.

Staff are now asking people in the area to keep an eye out around the woods beside the Westway building.

They added: “We’re incredibly proud of their resilience, but we’re also asking our community to please keep a wee eye out.

“This space means a lot to them.”
