Renfrewshire will mark Armed Forces Day with a flag-raising ceremony outside Renfrewshire House in Paisley on Friday 19th June.
The short service will begin at 11am and will recognise the contribution made by serving personnel, veterans, cadets and military families across the Armed Forces community.
The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised by ex-serviceman Robert Cunningham of the Queen’s Own Highlanders and will fly outside Renfrewshire House for 10 days.
Refreshments will be available afterwards in Paisley Abbey.
Armed Forces Day provides an opportunity for communities across the UK to show their support for those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, as well as the families who support them.
Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron said: “Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much valued morale boost for the troops and their families and it’s important we continue to highlight how much we appreciate their contributions to our country.
“This year there will be a family fun day on Armed Forces Day in partnership with the Royal British Legion Paisley Comrades branch and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and join me in showing support for our Armed Forces and their families.”
The celebrations will continue on Saturday 27th June with an Armed Forces Day Family Open Day at the Royal British Legion on Renfrew Road.
Running from midday, the free event will feature games, a bouncy castle, face painting, live music and a barbecue, and is open to all members of the public.
