Police Scotland has launched the Renfrewshire Safer Summer campaign, which will see officers carry out dedicated patrols and focus on different local priorities throughout the summer.

The campaign aims to make Renfrewshire a safe and vibrant place for people to live, work and visit by highlighting a different policing priority each week.

The first themed week will focus on violence, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

Before the launch, officers visited education establishments across Renfrewshire to speak to young people about staying safe during the summer holidays.

The visits also covered the use of e-scooters and fully electric bikes, with police highlighting how they intend to tackle their illegal use on public roads.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Iain Farmer, said: “Today’s launch welcomed police, partners, elected members and MSPs together to highlight our dedication to making our communities safe. The first week will concentrate on ‘Violence, Disorder and Anti-social Behaviour’.

“Leading up to the launch, we visited education establishments throughout Renfrewshire, highlighting how our young people can keep themselves safe over the summer period. A feature of these inputs was the use of e-scooters and fully electric bikes and how police intend to tackle the illegal use on our roads. Our patrols within targeted areas intend to deter violence and disorder within our communities.

“My ask to parents and carers is, do you know what your children are doing throughout the summer, who they are with and are their actions having an effect on our communities.

“I encourage the public to speak with our teams and discuss any concerns that they have within their community.

“Anyone wishing to report a crime can contact Police Scotland on 101, online through the Contact Us service, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
