Johnstone Burgh marked their first-ever Scottish Lowland League West match with a 2-0 home win over Troon, while Renfrew suffered a 4-1 defeat to leaders Pollok as the second round of fixtures was completed.
The midweek programme began on Tuesday night with Kilwinning Rangers making it two wins from two after beating Cumbernauld Colts 4-2. James Semple gave the Colts an early lead before Martin MacKintosh equalised. Alex Fernie restored the home side’s advantage, but second-half goals from Ryan Wilson, Callum Monti and another from Wilson secured the points for Kilwinning.
Celtic B also picked up their first league win with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Clydebank. Luke Kennedy opened the scoring before Ross Dargie struck twice. Lewis Clearie added two more, with Max Charlton also on target, while Nathan Little scored a late consolation for Clydebank.
Wednesday’s action saw Beith Juniors and Cumnock Juniors share the points in a 2-2 draw at Bellsdale Park. Declan Finnigan put Beith ahead before Zander Craik levelled. Tomas Brindley gave Cumnock the lead early in the second half, only for Taylor Wright to equalise two minutes later.
Gretna 2008 earned their first victory of the season with a 3-0 success over Newton Stewart. Tommy Chapman opened the scoring after six minutes before Ian Anderson doubled the lead before the break. Joe Galloway added a late third to complete the win.
Johnstone Burgh enjoyed a memorable Lowland League West debut with a deserved 2-0 victory over Troon at Keanie Park. Captain Michael Durnan broke the deadlock on the half-hour from an Ian McShane assist before Aaron Mason sealed the win with 20 minutes remaining. The clean sheet and three points gave Stevie Farrell’s side the perfect start to life in the new division.
At New Western Park, Pollok continued their 100 per cent start with a 4-1 win over Renfrew. Owen Cameron, Sean McCann, Callum Henry and Lewis Gallacher all scored before half-time to put the visitors in complete control. Kyle Healy pulled one back for Renfrew after the break before Adam Cook converted a penalty to make it 4-1.
After the opening two rounds of fixtures, Pollok sit top of the table with six points and a goal difference of +5, ahead of Kilwinning Rangers on goal difference. Beith Juniors and Cumnock Juniors occupy third and fourth respectively on four points. Johnstone Burgh’s opening victory leaves them eighth with three points from their first match, while Renfrew are 15th after back-to-back defeats.
