Two organisations in Renfrewshire are set to receive Scottish Government support as part of a new round of community funding announced on Thursday 19th March 2026. After checking the full list of awards, the local groups are Active Communities in Johnstone and Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust.

The funding comes through the Strengthening Communities Programme, with ministers saying more than 80 grassroots initiatives across Scotland will share more than £3 million in 2026/27 to help community groups grow projects, become more financially resilient and generate more of their own income.

From the Renfrewshire entries on the published list, Active Communities has been allocated £39,461 and Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust has been allocated £25,773, although the Scottish Government said all awards remain subject to due diligence.

Active Communities is based at Station Seven on Quarry Street in Johnstone. Its charity entry says it is set up to build healthy, vibrant communities in Renfrewshire and empower local people, while its website describes it as a health and wellbeing charity working across Renfrewshire.

Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust is based in Lochwinnoch and says it exists to help the village in Renfrewshire thrive. Its charity record also lists its main operating location as Renfrewshire.

Announcing the funding, First Minister John Swinney said local organisations are best placed to understand what their communities need and how to deliver it, adding that the programme helps support initiatives such as spaces for small businesses, cultural and sports activity, and employability support.

The First Minister announced the funding during a visit to The Usual Place in Dumfries, one of the organisations receiving support in this latest round.
