McGill’s Buses is introducing a series of new, revised and withdrawn services across Renfrewshire from Sunday 12th July, with further changes taking effect on Monday 13th July.
The changes include new routes, more frequent services, revised timetables and the withdrawal of some existing services. They affect passengers travelling in Paisley, Renfrew, Johnstone, Bridge of Weir, Kilbarchan, Erskine, Inchinnan, Linwood and the Gryffe Valley.
One of the biggest changes is in the Gryffe Valley, where new SPT-supported services 1, 1A and 2 will replace the current 1A, 1B, X6A, X6B, 9 and 530 services.
The new daytime Service 1 will run hourly between Port Glasgow and Johnstone Station via Kilmacolm, Quarriers Village, Bridge of Weir and Brookfield. The new Service 2 will operate every 75 minutes between Bridge of Weir and Johnstone via Houston and Linwood. A revised Service 1A will provide an hourly evening link between Bridge of Weir and Johnstone via Brookfield.
A new Service 21 will also be introduced between Paisley and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The service will run up to every 30 minutes via Newmains, Renfrew and Braehead, replacing the current 23P service. Evening journeys supported by SPT will continue to operate as Service 21.
The 23, 23A and 23D services between Erskine and Glasgow are being revised to provide a quicker route between the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow city centre, with buses running as often as every 12 minutes on that section. The route through Glasgow city centre will also change, while Service 26 will continue to serve Summerstown Road after it is removed from the 23 and 23A routes.
The 26 and 26A services between Nethercraigs and Paisley will receive revised timetables, including improved Sunday daytime frequencies between Paisley and Nethercraigs. Some evening journeys will also change route to improve punctuality.
Passengers travelling between Johnstone and Kilbarchan will see additional Monday to Saturday evening journeys introduced on Service 32. These replace the existing X6B evening journeys, which will no longer operate.
A new Service 24 will begin operating hourly between Clydebank Business Park and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital via Braehead and the Renfrew Bridge. Buses will continue beyond the hospital as Service 23 to provide direct links to Govan and Glasgow city centre.
The Service 6 timetable is also being revised to include new morning and afternoon 6A journeys serving the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus on Renfrew Road via Hawkhead Road and Glasgow Road.
From Monday 13th July, the X23 between Erskine and Glasgow will receive a revised route and timetable. McGill’s says the city centre route introduced previously will become permanent to improve punctuality and reduce journey times leaving the city.
The X21 between Paisley and Glasgow will also receive a revised timetable to improve punctuality. Morning and evening journeys currently operated as XP21 will instead run as X21, with the XP21 service being withdrawn.
Late evening passengers will also benefit from an extended 757 service. For a trial period, the 11pm departure from Clydebank will continue to Paisley on Monday to Friday evenings to better serve shift workers at Inchinnan Business Park.
Alongside the route changes, McGill’s has confirmed several services will end.
The XP21 will be withdrawn, with its journeys absorbed into the revised X21 timetable.
The evening X6B journeys between Johnstone and Linwood via Kilbarchan will also end, with replacement evening journeys provided by Service 32.
SPT-supported services 64, 164 and 364 will no longer be operated by McGill’s from Sunday 12th July. Replacement services will instead be provided by Stuart’s Coaches. Passengers are being advised to contact SPT or Stuart’s Coaches for further information.
McGill’s is advising passengers to check the new timetables before travelling, as journey times and routes will change on a number of services.
