Work at Robertson Park’s Sensory Garden in Renfrew has been paused after a bench was ripped from the ground.
Friends of Robertson Park said the damage happened overnight and arrangements were being made to secure the bench back in place.
The group said plants have also been repeatedly stolen, while glass bottles have been smashed and rubbish deliberately scattered across the garden.
Staff and volunteers have had to spend time clearing broken glass, replacing damaged or stolen plants and dealing with other vandalism.
Friends of Robertson Park said: “The Sensory Garden is a community space that we work hard to create, maintain and improve for everyone to enjoy. It is incredibly disappointing to see the work of our volunteers repeatedly damaged and our limited resources being used to deal with vandalism.
“As a consequence, we have unfortunately had to pause our work in the garden for the time being. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but the ongoing vandalism makes it extremely difficult to continue safely and sustainably.
“We would ask everyone in the community to please keep an eye out. If you see anyone causing damage or taking plants or items from the garden, please report it.”
