A local politician has hit out at vandals who continue to attack a bus service in Paisley.
Over a period of months, a number of buses have become the target of vandalism within the Foxbar area of Paisley.
This has sparked fears that in the long term McGill’s Buses may be forced to withdraw the evening service.
Damage has been caused while vehicles have been carrying passengers travelling along various streets including Brediland Road, Morar Drive and Herriot Avenue. This latest attack happened on Amochrie Road.
Last month, McGill’s withdrew evening services from Foxbar stating that they had no alternative in order to protect their employees and passengers.
However, after talks with Police Scotland, Renfrewshire Council and other local agencies the service was reinstated after 3 days.
Local Councillor Stephen Burns fears the withdrawal of bus services may leave the Foxbar community isolated from the rest of Paisley. He said: “Apart from the damage to the vehicles, there is the obvious safety concern for drivers and passengers – and even for other road traffic and pedestrians if drivers are trying to avoid being hit by missiles.
“Someone must know who is doing this and I would appeal to everyone who has any information to pass it on to Police Scotland on the 101 number or even use the Crime stoppers 0800 555 111 phone line if they want to pass on the information anonymously.
“If this vandalism doesn’t stop I am concerned that someone will get seriously injured and that the long term effects could see the bus company pulling out from running the night bus services in Foxbar leaving this community isolated from the rest of Paisley.”
