An 81-year-old man has been seriously hurt in a hit-and-run in Elderslie.

A man was crossing Main Road near to its junction with Kings Road when he was struck by a black Vauxhall Astra at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Police and Ambulance attended the scene and the pedestrian was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

The driver failed to stop after the vehicle struck the man, however the Vauxhall Astra was later found in Hartfield Road.

Road Policing Officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “The Vauxhall Astra failed to stop and was found abandoned a short time later in Hartfield Road. There was no-one within.

“The vehicle is undergoing examination and extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the occupants.

“I urge anyone who witnessed the crash or a black Vauxhall Astra being driven in the Elderslie area on Wednesday afternoon to contact us as soon as possible.”

Sergeant Hoggans added: “I would also ask drivers with dashcam or anyone with personal footage to check to see if it holds anything relevant and please get in touch.

“If you have any information that may assist us please contact 101 quoting incident number 1733 of 15 May.”
