MJC LAW has been named as a finalist for Small Firm of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards 2025.
Paisley-based MJC LAW said that being shortlisted alongside some of Scotland’s top legal firms is a true honour and a strong recognition of the team’s everyday efforts.
The Scottish Legal Awards are known as the largest independent awards programme for Scotland’s legal sector, celebrating innovation, hard work and excellence.
Once a small local practice, MJC LAW has grown into a key part of the community support network by connecting quality legal services with those who need them most.
Founded in 2016 by Matthew James Coffield, MJC LAW began with a clear purpose of protecting people in debt from homelessness. In 2024, this mission evolved into a broader vision—a strong community starts with a secure home—reaffirming their belief that legal support should strengthen not just individuals but also the communities in which they live.
In the past year, the firm introduced monthly pro bono legal clinics in partnership with the East Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau. They also provide free weekly legal advice on paisleyradio.com, helping more people across Renfrewshire get the support and information they need.
Additionally, MJC LAW has joined forces with Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland in fundraising and raising public awareness as part of their ongoing commitment to community engagement.
Matthew Coffield, Founder of MJC LAW, said: “I am delighted MJC LAW has been shortlisted as a finalist for this award. It means the world to know that our good work is being seen and appreciated.
“Being shortlisted is a testament to the dedication of our staff, our clients’ trust, and our commitment to combining legal expertise with social impact. We are proud that our work – whether it is in courtrooms, legal clinics, or on the airwaves – is making a difference.
“We look forward to celebrating with our peers at the awards and continuing to serve Paisley and beyond with integrity, compassion, and purpose.”
The finals will take place on Thursday 18th September at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow City Centre.
