A man who carried out a brutal Christmas Day knife attack on a woman has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Graham Kyle, 39, repeatedly struck neighbour Lynn Marie Burns, 52, at her flat in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, on 25th December 2025.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that at around 6:30pm, Kyle kicked Miss Burns’ door open.

Kyle shouted at her and called her a “grass” amid a “disagreement” where Miss Burns is said to have “stood up” for his partner in relation to a domestic matter.

Prosecutor Eilidh Robertson said: “Kyle grabbed her by the neck while holding a large kitchen knife.

“He tried to slash her neck with the knife but missed and struck her to the cheek instead.

“He struck her to the face which hit her above the eyebrow.”

Miss Burns attempted to grab the blade from Kyle but cut herself in the process.

Kyle went on to tell Miss Burns that he would get his brother to shoot her.

Miss Robertson said: “Kyle hit her to the forehead with the handle of the knife which caused her to lose consciousness.

“When she woke up, Kyle was still there shouting and left the property.”

A neighbour overheard Kyle threaten to kill Miss Burns.

The victim refused to go to hospital for medical treatment and has been left permanently scarred on her eyebrow.

When Kyle returned home, he told his girlfriend: “I ripped her jaw and kicked her c*** in. Every time she looks in the mirror she will remember me.”

Kyle showered and left the scene before he was eventually arrested by police.

He appeared to be “agitated and aggressive” and refused to answer police questions during interview.

Kyle initially faced a charge of attempted murder but pleaded guilty to assault to injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life.

Defence counsel Derek Pettigrew told the court: “There is no mitigation to be presented.

“My client said he had a grievance with Miss Burns and he foolishly attended her home and behaved in the manner which he has pleaded guilty to.

“This involved his own girlfriend who was a friend of Miss Burns.

“He can be grateful that the victim was not more seriously injured.”

Judge Douglas Brown, when jailing him, told Kyle: “You attacked her in her home where she would reasonably expect to feel safe.

“You tried to slash her on the neck which is a vulnerable part of her body due to the major blood vessels.

“You caused her to have a permanent scar and in your comment to your partner you were aware of that and were pleased about it.

“You caused her to become unconscious which would have caused a high level of fear and difficulties. She was extremely distressed.”

An indefinite non-harassment order was also imposed, prohibiting Kyle from contacting Miss Burns in any way.
