Renfrewshire councillors are set to debate calls to suspend a parking permit scheme at the council’s headquarters amid concerns workers are being charged to park at their place of employment.
A motion submitted by Councillors Eddie Devine and John Hood argues employees should not have to pay to park at work during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
The councillors say workplace parking charges place an additional financial burden on staff and are calling for the current scheme at Renfrewshire House to be halted pending a full review.
The motion will be discussed at the next meeting of Full Council at Renfrewshire Council on Monday, 22nd June.
Their motion states: “Council supports the principle that employees should not have to pay to park at their place of work, as this is essentially an addition burden on workers at a time when there is an escalating cost of living crisis.”
The motion also raises concerns about take-up of the permit scheme among elected members.
It states: “Council notes the current low uptake amongst elected members regarding the new car parking permit scheme at Renfrewshire House and calls for the cessation of the scheme pending a full review of its operations due to the discrepancies contained within it.”
No further details are provided within the motion regarding the discrepancies referred to.
If approved, the motion would see the scheme suspended while a review is carried out into its operation.
