Families are being invited to kick off the festive season in Linwood as the town’s Christmas Lights Switch On returns on Friday 5th December 2025.

The free community celebration will take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Tweedie Hall, 17 Bridge Street, Linwood, and promises an evening full of festive fun, music and entertainment for all ages.

Guests can enjoy a special Christmas carol concert featuring performances from local schools and community groups, including Woodlands Primary, Our Lady of Peace Primary, and Linwood High School. The evening’s musical programme will also feature a performance by Johnstone Brass Band, helping to create a warm and festive atmosphere.

The lights will be officially switched on at 7.30pm by Renfrewshire’s Provost, who will be joined by Santa Claus and the winner of the council’s annual Christmas card competition.

As well as the main stage entertainment, visitors can take part in drop-in festive arts and crafts, where children can write letters to Santa, design their own Christmas decorations, and take home a handmade keepsake.

There will also be kids’ discos, festive storytelling sessions, and a chance for youngsters to step inside a giant snowglobe for the perfect Christmas photo moment.

The Linwood Library, located on the ground floor of Tweedie Hall, will also open late until 7.30pm to join in the festivities.

Anyone wishing to volunteer and gain experience supporting large local events can email eventsvolunteers@renfrewshire.gov.uk, while general enquiries about the event can be sent to events@renfrewshire.gov.uk.
