Lamont Farm Project in Erskine has launched an appeal for donations as it faces rising costs in caring for its elderly animals during the colder months.
The community-run farm, which has been part of Renfrewshire life for nearly 49 years, said that many of its older animals – including Victor the sheep, Jenny May the donkey (aged 33), and Jack the Shetland pony (aged 35) – need extra attention, special feed and warm shelter as winter approaches.
A spokesperson for the farm said: “Our older animals are enjoying the sunshine when it appears, but we know how quickly the weather can change. We’ve got warm stables ready, but the costs of feed, bedding, heating, and vet care have risen dramatically. We’re struggling, and every penny really does count.”
The charity says it is spending around £50 more every few weeks on feed than in previous years, and with visitor numbers falling over the winter, bucket donations are also down.
Lamont Farm Project is appealing to the public to consider donating even £1 to help cover the extra costs of feed, vet bills, straw, winter rugs, and heating.
Donations can be made in person at the farm, via PayPal to lamontfarmproject@gmail.com, or through the farm’s GoFundMe page, here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-to-continue-the-legacy-of-lamont-farm.
The farm added: “We’ve been part of the community for almost 49 years – can you help us make it to 50?”
