Plans have been submitted to build 32 new homes on land between Balmoral Road and Auchenlodment Road in Elderslie.
The proposal, lodged with Renfrewshire Council, seeks full planning permission for a residential development including access roads, drainage infrastructure and landscaping works.
The site, which sits to the west of Auchenlodment Road, currently consists of grassland, trees and scrub and borders Craigston Wood.
A design and access statement, prepared by Brindley Associates, said: “Previously, the land was covered by a green belt designation, which was removed following an appeal in 2022 when the current Renfrewshire Local Development Plan (2021) was being adopted. The site is now classified as ‘white space’.
“The applicant holds a vision to develop the approximately 1.95 hectare land parcel to create a high quality, private residential area with 32 homes with associated infrastructure and open spaces.”
Planning documents confirm the development would consist entirely of private housing, with a mix of three, four, five and six-bedroom homes, with larger family properties making up the majority of the scheme.
Developers Robertson Homes state that the site is now considered part of the built-up area of Elderslie following the removal of the green belt designation, meaning there is a general presumption in favour of development on the land.
Plans include new access points from Auchenlodment Road, internal roads, and improved pedestrian links, including a new footpath connection to existing routes near Adam’s House and Craigston Wood.
A landscaped green space is also proposed, incorporating sustainable drainage systems designed to manage surface water and support biodiversity.
Supporting documents state the site is not at risk from river or coastal flooding, with surface water to be managed through an on-site drainage basin designed to handle extreme weather events.
No affordable housing is included in the development as the proposal falls below the council’s threshold of 50 homes.
A public meeting was held tonight, Thursday 26th March at Elderslie Kirk to discuss the proposed 32-home development off Auchenlodment Road.
The application is currently at the consultation stage, with a decision yet to be made.

The proposals have sparked a significant negitive reaction on social media, with dozens of comments from residents ahead of a public meeting at Elderslie Kirk.
Concerns raised include increased traffic, with fears the development could add at least 60 extra cars to local roads and worsen congestion at key junctions such as Kings Road and Beith Road.
Others highlighted pressure on local services, including GP appointments and school capacity, while some questioned whether the village infrastructure could support further housing.
Residents also pointed out that objections must be formally submitted through the council’s planning portal to be considered, rather than raised only at meetings or on social media.
