A theatre director from Paisley is part of the creative team behind a new Scottish play that will premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.
Prophets has been written by Fringe First-winning playwright Jack MacGregor, directed by Paisley’s Fraser Scott and produced by National Theatre of Scotland Producing Fellow Leah Byrne. The production will run at Assembly Roxy from 5th August until 31st August, excluding 12th, 17th and 24th August.
The dark psychological thriller follows Kerris, a researcher who arrives on a tiny British Overseas Territory and discovers a colonial outpost under the influence of a growing religious sect. As memory and nightmares begin to merge, she becomes caught up in the island’s events as the “Day of Paradise” approaches.
The play was previously presented at Page 2 Stage and Capital Theatres Open@TheStudio Scratch Night. It has also received the 2026 ART Award from Assembly Festival, which supports new Scottish writing and creativity at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Fraser Scott is an award-winning theatre director from Paisley. He was Resident Assistant Director at Octagon Theatre in Bolton. His directing credits include Rep Stripped 2026, Fish, Athens of the North and Common Tongue.
Performances of Prophets will take place at Assembly Roxy’s Roxy Boxy venue at 5.45pm. The production has a running time of 60 minutes and is recommended for audiences aged 14 and over.
