A Kilbarchan family are organising a charity race night to raise money for Epilepsy Scotland and highlight the challenges faced by people living with epilepsy.
The event will take place at Habbies Pub in Kilbarchan on Saturday 30th May 2026.
William and Christina Best are behind the fundraiser, which is being held in honour of their 14-year-old daughter, Lily.
As well as raising funds, the couple are launching a wider push to improve awareness of epilepsy across the area.
They are encouraging local businesses and community spaces to learn more about seizure safety and how to support people living with the condition.
The race night will include raffles and auctions, with prizes already including a signed Rangers shirt and a composite door. Organisers say no tickets are required.
William Best said: “This event is incredibly close to our hearts, as we are hosting it in honor of our daughter, Lily. Our goal is to raise as much awareness and funding as possible for Epilepsy Scotland to support the vital work they do for families across the country.”
He added on the fundraiser page: “Our family’s journey with our 14-year-old daughter Lily’s epilepsy diagnosis has opened our eyes to a stark and unfair reality. We’ve learned that where you live can be the difference between getting the support you need and being left to fend for yourself.
“In many areas, councils use a ‘lottery’ or ‘token’ system for grants and support. This model, while perhaps well-intentioned, is failing families dealing with a life-threatening condition like epilepsy.
“Seizure monitors, alarms, and other essential equipment are not ‘nice-to-have’ items. They are vital for safety and peace of mind. A family shouldn’t have to wait for a specific funding round or a lucky draw to get a device that could save their child’s life.
“We believe that no family should be left behind because of a postcode lottery. We need our local councils to acknowledge that the current system is not fit for purpose when it comes to epilepsy.”

How local businesses can help
Organisers are looking for support from businesses across Renfrewshire. They are asking firms to donate a raffle or auction prize, sponsor one of the races for a small fee, or share the event poster on social media. In return, businesses will be thanked in promotional material, on social media and during the event.
Anyone who wants to help can contact Christina on 07960964881.
