Renfrewshire councillors have approved civic hospitality support for two local organisation.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Finance, Resources and Customer Services Policy Board on Thursday, 11th June.

Members unanimously agreed to provide a contribution of £950 towards Bishopton Bowling Club’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The club had requested civic hospitality in the form of an afternoon tea at its premises on Sunday, 28th June, for approximately 120 guests.

Councillors also agreed that Renfrewshire Council would take a table of 10 at Accord Hospice’s Charity Ladies Day event, which is due to take place at Ingliston Country Club on Saturday, 3rd October.

The cost of the table will be £550 and will be funded through the council’s civic hospitality budget.

A report to councillors said civic receptions provide recognition of the contributions made by individuals and organisations to life in Renfrewshire.

Both requests were recommended for approval by council officers following consultation with Provost Lorraine Cameron and were agreed without debate.

The board also considered a request from Paisley Loyal Orange Lodge No. 6 District for civic hospitality to mark its 150th anniversary.

The lodge had requested a sit-down dinner with a welcome drink for approximately 95 people at an estimated cost of £2,100.

However, councillors voted by seven votes to five, with one abstention, to reject that request following a debate on the organisation’s history and whether public funding should be used to support the event.
