A driver is to stand trial charged with killing a teenager he was allegedly in a “race” with.
Bill McKenzie, 20, is said to have been involved in an incident which saw 19 year-old Jay Morrison pass away in hospital the next day.
Prosecutors state the crime occurred on the A726 Nitshill Road near to Levern Bridge Road in Pollok, Glasgow on 17th September 2021.
It is claimed McKenzie went at excessive speed and did “engage in a race” with a car driven by Mr Morrison.
McKenzie, of Barrhead, Renfrewshire, allegedly drove in close proximity to the teenager and continued to do so while approaching temporary roadworks.
The road then merged into a single lane.
The indictment states, as a consequence, Mr Morrison ended up taking that stretch and a bend at speed losing control of his car.
The motor is said to have struck a kerb, bus stop and lamp-post before overturning.
Mr Morrison is described as being so badly hurt that he died at the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital the following day.
The case against McKenzie called today/yesterday at the High Court in Glasgow where his legal team pled not guilty on his behalf.
He is accused of causing death by dangerous driving as well as a separate charge of causing death by careless driving while uninsured.
Lord Clark fixed a trial due to start in May 2024.
McKenzie remains on bail meantime.
